Subject:Really?
Posted by:aaronschamber.
Time:4:12 am.
I'm just curious as to how many people here, when they are improvising live, actually think through what they are doing and do crazy stuff like mixing chord tones, stacking weird stuff, and switching modes and scales - especially when it's a song that changes chords (or even crazier: keys) every 1, 2, even 4 beats at ~120bpm (or faster).

And if you do, can you give me any advice?

Is anyone here into touch tapping (10 finger tapping/piano style guitar) ala Stanley Jordan/Satch/Dave Knudson/Etc.? I recently started getting into this more, and found a pretty unique sound by mixing it up with harp harmonics. However, I'm still kind of new to it and am looking for some recommendations on easier pieces that use this technique to help get me started. So if you have any tips or licks or anything to help out with this, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

I'll also be talking to the mod of this community soon (his interested shifted to drums) to make a few changes, hopefully. Let me know of any changes you'd like to see.

I developed this amp which recently won Guitar World magazine's "Gold Award"

I don't work for them anymore, (I run another music company now) but I still help them out with product development.

k,
i need to ask a big favor of everyone here.  i'm trying to find a good band name for my newly created band.  i made a list of possible band names already, if you have anymore ideas you can add them to it.  but if you could go to http://www.livejournal.com/users/strat89/9796.html and vote on which band name you like best by posting a comment, i'd really appreciate it.

thanks
peace

Howdi. I'm a 17 year old axe slinger from Ottawa Canada. Anyways I play a G&L S-500 and a 1976 Gibson Les Paul Classic Pro Deluxe, and of course an assorment of other guitar related paraphenalia. Playing experience wise I've played local clubs and schools and I'm teahing the beginners acoustic guitar course at my high school. Interesting to say the least. Well I follow the likes of Satch, Vai, Malmsteen, Matheny, Hughes, Zep, Yes, Rush, VH, etc. I'm in the midst of recording a solo instrumental album which is alaways fun. Anywho let me know what you all think and take care!

Hey. I'm Chris, and I'm new to this commune. I am a strat slinger, and was wondering if there were any others like me out there. I've been addicted to playin' blues for aout 5 years now. Nothin' but the blues. Actually, as of recently, I've been listening to just as much Metallica as blues because I love Kirk Hammet's Lead work, but I'm blues at heart. Currently I have two strats. One is a Mexican's 60's that I've decked the shit out of, New pickups, jumbo frets, new bridge block, saddles, and the other is an 87 Jap Standard with jumbo frets, and it is the shit. I never put that fucker down. My 60's is kinda left out, but that Jap has a better sound and quality than any American model i've played, and it only cost $400. Anywhoo, any other strat slingers out there, comment. I'd like to get to know a few more.

hey all, i'm trying to get a decent practice schedual down and having a hell of a hard time figuring out what i should put in. i'm looking at a 2 hour time slot and it needs filling. i'd like to get some feedback on what other's are like so i can get a better idea. This would really help me out since i'll be applying at the Music Tech school of Music here in MN. Right now I'm starting off with the right handed stretching exercises from Rock Disipline followed by F Major scale runs. Like i said, any imput would be greatly appriciated.

I play a Gibson Les Paul Custom Signature, Epiphone Goth Les Paul, Fender Strat, and an Alvarez acoustic/electric

I use a 5150 half stack, Morley volume-wah, and a few different DOD pedals. Eventually I'm gonna get a Marshall MF.

I've jammed for about 8 years or so and I've been in a band prolly for about 2 years now.

What up everyone. Hopefully you can tell by my name that I play a Gibson Les Paul. It's sunburst but only a standard, still a great guitar. I play on a Marshall half stack I got for Christmas last year and I don't us any peddles. I'm planning on getting a wah after I pay off my Les. I'm in a Christian Hardcore punk band called 12 hour crush. So yeah... that's me. If you'd like to know anything else feel free to ask.

I decided to have some fun on my site so if you are interested, post your music samples this week and I will have an impartial "judge" decide which one they like the best. Once a decision is made, I will add a link on the home page to your clip/web page.

You have until Wednesday to post your sound byte!

I thought I would post this for those of you who are interested. I created a website about a week ago that is called GuitaristWorks. It is still a work in progress and I am tweaking a lot. I set it up so you can stream mp3's and you can also post any pictures of your gear you want in the photo gallery. You can also create your own personal photo gallery if you would like.

Anyway stop by and upload some music or listen to some of the tracks already there. Just click the banner below to get to the site.

Hope you like it,

Dazed
